Apple is working on an 8K VR/AR headset for 2020.

According to a CNET source, Apple is currently working on a wireless augmented reality and virtual reality headset with two 8K display.

The headset would be equipped with cameras that detect the environment, all is supposed to connect to a dedicated box through a high-speed wireless technology called WiGig 60 GHz (as for the HTC Vive). It will have cameras that detect the surroundings and an 8K display for each eye.

The project, codenamed T288 could be powered by a proprietary Apple SoC engraved in 5 nanometers. As a reminder, the current SoC Apple A11 Bionic used in the iPhone X is engraved in 10 nanometers, which implies the use of a chip that is not yet commercialized

We cannot know if this project will really see the light of day. The AR and VR remain anyway an important stake in the sector of the new technologies, Apple has already invested massively in them.
